W | Oct. 27 – Anne Goldman; Stargazing in the Atomic Age

Before becom­ing a writer, Anne Gold­man held a series of jobs strange­ly if tan­gen­tial­ly relat­ed to lan­guage. She dig­i­tized Adobe Sys­tem’s Times New Roman font when Adobe was a start­up (alas, with­out stock options), pruned banana trees while learn­ing Hebrew in Israel, and deliv­ered the San Jose Mer­cury News to help fund col­lege. Stargaz­ing, her Kirkus-starred essay col­lec­tion, was pub­lished by UGA Press this January.
